One of the many problems that Indian firms have been facing for decades is having utmost difficulty in proper e-Waste Management. India generates about 3 million tonnes (MT) of e-waste annually and ranks third among e-waste producing countries, after China and the United States. Reports state that it might rise to 5 million tonnes by 2021. Out of 3 million tonnes barely 8 lakh tonnes is recycled in an environment-friendly way. One of the primary causes - Indian e-Waste market till this date is highly unorganized and many e-waste management companies majorly focus on just collecting e-waste and segregating them.

About 95% of India’s e-waste is recycled in the informal sector. The process includes manual dismantling, segregating, unsafe removal and collection of solder by heating, acidic extraction of metals, and burning of wastes to remove combustible plastics and isolating metals. The entire process is done in a crude inexperienced manner and has severe adverse effects on the environment and the health of the workers. But the forward to a greener tomorrow is following the 4 R – Reuse, Repair, Recycle, and Research.
